A complete overview of the major concepts and theories of social representations

Since their foundation by Serge Moscovici more than 50 years ago, works on social representations has grown worldwide in the field of human and social sciences and has been the subject of major theoretical and methodological developments. Without always being explicitly mentioned, social representations are constantly solicited when it comes to studying the relationships maintained by individuals and groups with regard to objects at the heart of social life (health, illness, environment, work, justice, education, new technologies, etc.).
The various contributions presented in this book, grouped into three main thematic sections, each demonstrate in its own way the value of an approach to social objects through social representations. The first part presents the ramifications of the initial theory and their major methodological developments. A second part provides illustrations of the application of social representation theory in fields related to lively social and societal issues. Finally, a third part describes the major current developments, suggesting a very rich and stimulating future. Each of these parts combines extensive introductory chapters and one or more focuses to illustrate or highlight a particular aspect of the chapter.

Gathering 85 authors of 19 different nationalities, this volume is a reference work on social representations.
